Motors

in this expeirement we were making solens. We wrapped wire around a straw attached it to a battery and put a needle in.

when the wire wasn't attached to the battery and you put the needle in nothing happened. But when the battery was attached the straw got really hot when you put the needle in.

also it sparked in my hand so i threw it was an accident I'm so sowwy

measure of sound

we didn't get to the speaker part. It sounded really cool and i want to do it.

In the first magnetic expeirement we were tring to find a pattern in how strong the magnetic feild is when you wrap peices of wire around it. We came up with the conclsion that the more you wrap it the higher the magnetic feild.

i didn't know that it would be hot when we put the wire on the battery but i burned myself.

Mini Culmination (part 4)

(I dont even know if we have to be doing blogs on this but I am to be safe.)

This week we tested the parachute in are group and it always landed on the second step. So now we are officially done with our parachute. Once again I asked around to see if people needed help.

I did'nt learn anything since I was doing little things like getting plastic bags and tape. Stuff like that.

Mini Culmination (Part 3)

My seprate duty out of my group is making a parchute that lands in the same spot and it always does out of the time we test it unless we move where we are droping it.

Since we were finished I went around my group asking if anybody needed my help and nobody did.

I eneded up somehow helping the other group with making a basket that carries stuff up a string using baloons. I did learn new things while help them like when your string is loose your basket doesnt go as far. Also I learned where you should but the ballons on the basket because if you ut it in certain places it wont move.

Mini Culmination (day 2)

Today since we got made a good working parachute we worked to make it better. We tried alot of new things. Alot of different wheight to see if our parachute could work for more than one size. In the end we came up with a design better than our first one.

I learned that in order for your parachute to fall flat the weight needs to be tied in the center so its balanced. Also that if you have a little extra wight you can make it fall smoother and faster depending on how small the item your transporting is.

A question I have is how come we just can't drop the iten into the bag.

Mini Culmination

For our group mini culmination I will be focusing on making the parichut that will land in a basket. We have to make the parachute so it always falls in the same place depending on where you are.

In this I have furthered my learning on parachutes and there designs. I learned what string length when you look at it with your eyes is good to parachute different sized things.

I hope it Will work.

Recovery Systens

In this Lab we were making different parachut designs and seeing which one has the least drag. The parachute was hol=ding san bags. We through the parachute off of the top of the stairs. We did a petty good job and it went down straight and smooth the first time but then we tried to make it go down slower then what it was already going down.

I learned that the closer the parachute is to the sand bag the slower it goes down. You cant put too close to the bag n the bottom though or else the air cant get in.

I think we will be making parahutes with not alot drag in the mission to mars because we were supposed to be recording our data not neccaseriy on paper.

Launching from the moon

In launching from the moon we were trying to move things up a fishing wire using a baloon as the motor. It was really hard. The first couple of times we used a big tube to put the fishing wire through but all the baloon did was turn in circles then we used a regular straw.

I learned how much a baloon can hold at the time. Also I learned about how hard it is to make rockets that carry stuff with out using up all your money.


How will this apply to mission to mars? I just didnt get this lab at all.

Lego Robotics

In the Lego robotics we were trying move boulders to a certain spot in the middle of the moon. We were designing how it would move in Robolab. We did one try and then I left early.

On that one try we learned more about the different motors and how to control your speed a little bit better. Also I learned about the turns when I did it I realized I didn't know how to turn the robot. Then Cecelia reminded me.

Robotics X

Today I did the lab Robotics x it was fun. What we had to do is build a robot that picks up 3 rocks and that can hold it. We made the actuall robot fast, it was also easy making a arm. We wanted to go to the next level though and we made an arm that actually picks things up and puts it on its back. We had to use the motors like joints. I hope we will be making robots like that on the mission to mars because that is really fun.

Science

In this lab I furthered my learning on what acceleration and velocity. I relised today I didn't really know what acceleration and velocity was but know I do. Acceleration is going faster and speeding up. Velocity is the amount of distance you cover in a certain amount of time. Also that those two in some cases are the same thing. When the amount of distance you cover goes faster that can also mean you are going faster. They are different though and aren't always the same. Like if a car keeps going at the same speed there will be a straight line on how much distance you have covered but the accleration will be 0 because your not going faster your staying at the same speed.

The moon has less gravity than the earth and the force pulling me down would be weaker. Diving in a swimming pool would be cool. I imagine since there's not as much gravity you would go slower into the water and you be in air for a long time and when you hit the water the water splash would stay in the air for a while. Also since the faster or higher you fall the deeper you go into the water and since your going slower when you dive you wont go as deep in the water.

Thrust structures

My lab today was thrust structers it was very fun. What we did was build a stand that a water bottle would be put on top of. It had to be at least 5 cm high and it would have to withstand 3 launches were it flew in the air and fell. Also you were supposed to make it as light as possible. Then after you I made one that worked I had to make a lighter one using the first one as an example as what I should do.

I learned that the harder you drop something the more powerful it is because with the sand bag you had to sort of drop it hard and high so the bottle could go higher. I also learned that triangles work as good as squares when building something and that they are lighter. So not neccisarily everthing has to be built in a square shape.

I want to know will we be building launchers that have to meet certain requirements such as weighing a certain amount?

Remote repairs

This lab is called Remote repairs. What we did was we had 2 bags one with a built piece and a bunch of pieces to build a piece. One person had the built piece and another person had the pieces to build that and we had to talk to each other and give directions to each other so we could build it. Besides giving directions we also had describe the pieces.

In this lab I furthered my learning about being descriptive. It was really hard harder than i though we were working for a long time and we only got a little bit done. Nobody finished. I have empathy for the people who do this for a living they must be better at it than me though.


I think if I was to do this again I 'd get started faster and I would be more descriptive and also I would go slower
